Due to a rise in accidents in many parts of the world, Dash cameras are becoming very popular nowadays. Before you confuse this camera with an action camera, let me clarify that this is a different product. One of the best features about this camera is that it will not require any external power source. It will draw the power from your own car. On our Yi dash camera manual we will discuss how to use Yi dash camera and will also include many features mentioned in the manual of the camera.
It was also built to record your surroundings at night when accidents occur more commonly. The Dash Camera also comes with some extraordinary safety features which will help you a lot after an accident has occurred.
Before I go into details about what the Yi Dash camera is all about, let me clarify again that it was not built to take pictures with your friends and family. The manufacturers, which consists of a team from Germany, Taiwan, and China made this camera for safe driving. I have seen many people who don’t have time to read an entire manual, so this article on Yi dash camera manual will save you a lot of time.
They have used the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS to make the camera, which is one of the best technologies available for visual recognition. This technology is what gives the dash camera a high-resolution video recording. All the visuals recorded are in real time, this decision making by the driver of the vehicle is improved to a great extent.
There is also an App called Yi Dash Cam which can be downloaded from Google Play store or apple store. The app will give you access to many other features of the Dash camera. If you want to settle insurance or accident-related disputes, the recording made by this Dash camera can be used as evidence.
The Yi Dash Camera was made by the electronics manufacturer Yi Technology based in China. It was the first ever Dash Camera made by the company. Seeing the popularity of the Yi Action Camera, the Chinese company Yi decided to launch the dash Camera exactly one year after.
The difference between the Yi action camera and the Dash camera lies in the processor. If you look at the manual, You will see the processor’s name is “Yi A12 dual-core”, but after a thorough investigation, we found that it is actually “Novatek NT96660 processor”. Perhaps the manufacturers wanted to shift from the Ambarella A7LS Processor series, which is why they mentioned another name. The Yi action camera was known to be more customisable but the dash camera does not have those features yet.
The camera has a maximum recording limit of 1296p at 60 fps. We have tried it at 1080p so far and found the quality of the video to be excellent.
Before we go into that, I want to discuss the things which will come with the camera once you buy it. Some of my tips on how to use Yi Dash camera are given below.
The various components of the camera include the lens, microphone, speaker, air vent etc. I will now talk about how to use the Dash camera.
The ADAS or advance driver assistant system can be turned on or off as you wish. It works only at 1080p and 30 fps.
You will find the driving app on Xiaoyi’s website. The instructions will be in Chinese so just press the App button to redirect to the App Store or Google Play Store for the English version.
Did you know that the dash camera also works without the App I mentioned before? This will come in handy if you don’t have internet access. To use the extra features of the Dash camera, the app is required.
To record any video and store it, the micro SD card must be inserted into the Dash camera itself. Look to the bottom left corner of the Dash camera’s screen for an indicator button. Just press it to enable or disable emergency recording option.
You won’t need to press any button to start loop recording. A red light on the top of the screen will indicate that recording is going on. Just look beside the emergency recording option button to press the “loop recording” button and change the status of your video recording.
As I said before, the dash camera will save its videos on the memory card. The system supports up to 64 GB but we will recommend that you do not go beyond 32 GB. To play any video on the album, ensure that the SD card is inserted into the camera. The third button from the right and below the screen is the button which you can use to view your entire video album. To conserve space, we will recommend that you delete the old video recording which is not useful anymore.
The small icon on the rightmost part of the screen is the charging indicator light. If it is red, the camera is in charging mode. The light will not glow if the charge is 100%.
On the left side of the charging indicator light, there is the “status indicator” icon.when recording is in progress, it will blink once every second. For updating purposes, it will blink continuously.
I won’t be showing the diagrams here, but just remember these steps.
If you need to change any part of the Dash camera, buy only the parts which have been specified by the manufacturer. For example, do not use a USB cable made by others company since it can damage the camera slowly.
Some of the frequently asked questions asked by the users are given below. You will not find them in Yi Dash camera manual so go through them thoroughly.
Ans: It was in Chinese before but now the instructions are in English, including the booklets.
Ans: Obviously not, but you can see a few images and have access to some settings.
We have tried to include most of the information from the manual to operate the Yi Dash camera. The camera is very easy to use and will start recording as soon as you turn on your engine. We were very impressed by the feature where the most important parts of a recording are cut away if the recording is very long. There were some problems regarding heating up quickly than under the sun and this also had an impact on the focus of the camera. We hope that this problem will be resolved in the next update.
If you are looking for a camera which is cost-effective, give good quality video and also easy to use, the Yi Dash Camera should be number 1 on your list. I hope that this Yi Dash camera manual will be helpful to you.
